NO CHRISTIAN IS "JUST WICKED AS HELL" I was told this week of a visiting preacher testifying at a church that he listened to the Bible driving in because he was "just wicked as hell." Perfectly in step with IFB tradition, he garnered a nice round of amens. Apparently, he didn't listen to the Bible very well, else he wouldn't have arrived at church talking like a fool. That nonsense might fly well at the next hillbilly camp meeting, but it's foreign to the word of God. No Christian is ever said to be wicked anywhere in the Bible. In fact, according to Jesus, all who have been born again are greater than John the Baptist: "For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." (Luke 7:28) "Well, the preacher just meant . . ." Yes, I know what he meant, but he was stupid for meaning it and stupid for saying it. Sure, our flesh is no good, but WE ARE NOT OUR FLESH! We are not our flesh, we are not sinners, and we certainly are not "just wicked as hell." As long as we entertain these defeatist ideas we will never amount to anything for God. If he is, then whoever he was, he's still lost and needs to remain silent.Friend, if you are saved, you'll never be worth ten cents to God, practically speaking, until you turn away from who you WERE and start embracing who you ARE in Jesus Christ. You're a child of the King, a Son of God; so LIVE LIKE IT and TALK LIKE IT! That's what the world needs. We have enough sinners already. We need more WINNERS, not sinners. You WERE wicked, and your flesh is still wicked, but YOU ARE NOT YOUR FLESH, and you shouldn't be acting and talking like you are! A prisoner who has been made free is no longer a prisoner, and he helps no one by claiming that he is.
