ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: August 13, 1953 the Republican anti-discrimination President’s Committee on Government Contracts Republican
measures to promote fairness in government. August 13th 1953, Dwight
Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10479. He intended to undo the
racially discriminatory practices of the FDR and Truman administrations."It is the
obligation of the contracting agencies of the United States Government
and government contractors to insure compliance with, and successful
execution of, the equal employment opportunity program of the United
States Government."
Banned was
awarding government contracts based on an applicant's race, creed,
color, or national origin. Established was the President’s Committee on
Government Contracts. Vice President Richard Nixon was named to chair
