No Fan FareLuke 2:7“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”Can you imagine how the birth of Christ would have been if one of our churches today would have arranged for it? Today, most of what we do is done with great publicity. When Jesus started His earthly ministry of performing miracles He would ask those He helped to “tell no man”.What? No fan fare! No publicity!Philippians 2:7 tells us that He “made himself of no reputation”. I believe that today, with a pure heart and motive, there are those who desire to reach as many lost people as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They truly desire to help as many of God’s people as they can. But, we must be careful that our motive is purely about Christ and nothing of and for personal gain.Something to think about- If Jesus would have been born during a social media crazed day like ours today would He be worried about how many followers He had on His accounts? Would He even have a social media account? I realize I ask that question while posting this devotion, but it is good for any of us in ministry, including myself, to check our hearts and ask ourselves are we doing this to help people or gain a personal following? True Christian ministry is not about seeking personal gain, but to make much of Christ. John the Baptist set the standard for us, when he said in John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
