Be Still
Psalms 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
I wonder how many Christians in these days know what it means to “be still”, so that they may know God is God. Better yet, I wonder how many actually take the time to “be still” and know that God is God? Some Christians are too lazy, but is it possible to be too busy? Is it possible for a Christian to be so busy, even with some good things, that the best thing, which is knowing God and who He really is, passes them by?
The greatest tragedy in the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) wasn’t that the man was beaten and robbed and left for dead. The greatest tragedy was that the priest and Levite were so busy and enamored with their own way of religious activity, that they did not know the heart of God, which was to stop and show mercy to the man left by the wayside half dead.
How often are Christians today so busy playing church, that we miss truly knowing the heart of God. If what we know about God does not affect how we live in this world, and how we treat people, and how we interact with and witness to the spiritually broken of this world then we know very little about the heart of God. To know the heart of God you must spend time with God in His Word and with Him in communion of prayer and with the Holy Spirit. If you are too busy to spend time with God, you are too busy!
