Be Kind
Luke 6:35
“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”
For God is “kind to the unthankful and to the evil”. What a truth that challenges all of us who are Christians.
Am I kind?
Am I kind to the unthankful and to the evil?
The word “nice” is not found in the Bible but we cannot deny that the Christian ought to be a nice person, even towards those who are unthankful and even unto those who the Bible deems as evil. I personally believe one of the things that has hurt Christianity, especially in recent years where everything the church does seems to be examined very closely, is those in the church that seem to have a mean spirit. Read Ephesians 4:30-32. The Holy Spirit is grieved when Christians are not kind to one another. I think it is very possible for the Christian to take a strong stand in their Bible convictions and yet make that stand with kindness.
I Corinthians 13:4 tells us that “Charity… is kind”. God’s love displays a kind spirit. God is kind and Christians should be kind to others. The Biblical word “kind” means gentle and nice in spirit, and in the attitude of our actions. When Jesus sent out the disciples as “sheep in the midst of wolves” He told them to “be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves”. May God help us who carry the name of Christ, who are Christians, to be kind, “as He is kind”.
