The 33-year-old mayoral candidate for New York City held a lavish three-day wedding bash to celebrate his marriage to Rama Duwaji, 27. The event, described as "presidential-style" took place at his family's secluded compound in Uganda. Many are now criticizing Mamdani for his hypocrisy especially because Mamdani advocates taxing the rich, enacting rent freezes, and defunding the police. While Mamdani preaches equity and criticizes "militarized oppression," the wedding featured elite-level security and exclusivity - meaning only the rich of the rich attended and none of the disenfranchised people he wants to help were invited. In addition, as Mamdani works to defund the police, and abolish ICE, his security was extraordinarily stringent, looking more like a high-profile diplomatic event than a celebration.
