DANIELLE SMITH Ottawa slashed Alberta’s provincial nominee program by 50% right when we were asking for more say in selecting the skilled workers our economy needs. Meanwhile, nearly 2 million newcomers arrived in Canada last year, overwhelming housing, health care, and education systems that are already under pressure. This is not sustainable. It’s not fair to the provinces, and it’s not fair to the newcomers trying to build a life here. Alberta is demanding a system that makes sense, one that puts economic migrants first and empowers provinces to meet their own workforce needs. Albertans and Canadians alike have had enough with the broken system. It’s time for a responsible, sustainable approach.
