No Hope
1 Thessalonians 4:13
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”
I do believe the saddest two words placed together in the English language are the two words, “no hope”. Separate them and they can be very helpful words. In the context of our text, death is the subject matter. Particularly it is the death of a believer that our text is speaking about. Death seems so final, but there is something beyond death. When someone dies, there awaits an eternity in heaven or eternity in hell. No person who dies and spends eternity in hell will rest in peace.
Jesus Christ gives us hope, He gives hope in the present and He gives hope for the future. Our text teaches us that believers sorrow at death but not as others who have no hope. Why? Because for the person who dies a believer in Jesus Christ there is the hope of Heaven! Jesus Christ gives hope beyond death and the grave. I am grateful for the hope I have in Jesus Christ!
