ONLY SEEKERS GET SAVED
Pay close attention and I'll show you something very important, and very encouraging, if you get the right perspective.
There are three kinds of people in the world, and only one kind can be saved. (Actually, there's a fourth group, the reprobates, but that's irrelevant to the point being made in this post.) There are saints, there are seekers, and there are stragglers. The saints are already saved, and the stragglers are ordinary sinners who are content with wandering through life in their sins, and they aren't interested in salvation. Getting them to pray a "sinners prayer" is a waste of time and will do them (and you) more harm than good. The stragglers love their sinful life and will not receive Christ unless that changes. That leaves only one group, the seekers.
Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." (Luke 11:9) If a man DOESN'T seek, then he doesn't find, simple as that. Jesus said, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Mat. 5:6) A man who does NOT hunger and thirst, does not enjoy the filling. The evil fruits of empty-believism are the result of naive "soul winners" trying to force-feed people who aren't hungry and trying to give to people who aren't seeking. It's a violation of the words of our Lord and does more harm than good. Save the SEEKERS, or you are wasting your time.
Nicodemus ended up believing on Jesus, but he was ALREADY A SEEKER. Read John 3 and see for yourself.
The woman at the well was also a seeker because she was interested in worshiping God, and she became a greater seeker after being witnessed to by the Lord. She wasn't coerced into praying a prayer. She ASKED Jesus for the living water (John 4:7-15).
Jesus said, "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." (John 6:35) Stragglers cannot be saved. They must become SEEKERS or any religious effort is vain.
If you will study the conversions in the book of Acts, you will see that every instance presents people or a person who is either ALREADY SEEKING God to some degree, or they BECOME SEEKERS due to some incredible occurrence, such as an earthquake or other miracle.
The 3,000 who were saved at Pentecost, were already seeking God in the sense that they were coming together to honor God on His feast day. Then they sought God even more after hearing Peter's message. My point is that these were not 3,000 ordinary gentile sinners at a ball game or a concert. Had they been such, very few, if any, would have been saved. They were saved because they were seekers.
Study through Acts for yourself, and you will not see a single instance of a Christian leading a regular Joe to Christ. Joe must first become a seeker, either by miracle or by seed sowing, planting and watering. The eunuch was returning from worship and reading Isaiah 53. He was a seeker. Cornelius was "a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house" (Acts 10:1). Another seeker. The jailer at Philippi BECAME a seeker at rocket speed as a result of an earthquake (Acts 16:25-34). The converts in Acts 19 were already DISCIPLES of John, not redneck construction workers or Saturday night party animals. Only SEEKERS become believers.
If you want to see people saved, FIND THE SEEKERS. If you can't find any, take the word of God and shake things up good enough to CREATE some seekers. Until then, you will either produce NO converts or FAKE converts. I know that runs against the grain of the empty-believe crowd, but that's Bible 101, and before the mid 20th century, most everyone knew it.
