The reason this happens, often an elected representative is involved and threatens to vote against critical legislation unless they make a deal to exonerate them. There's good evidence a lot of the money given Epstein to start his enterprise was given to him by powerful people hoping to get dirt on the powerful for their own benefit. This is my opinion based on information I've been told by people that once worked in Washington. I could be wrong, but considering what I see in the news. I doubt it.
