There Are No Second Chances In Eternity
Revelation 22:11 -
“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”
In Revelation chapter 22 we are in the final chapter of the Bible, and the final scene is in eternity. There is the New Jerusalem or Heaven for the righteous and there is “the lake which burneth with fire and brimestone” (Revelation 21:8), for the unrighteous or those who have rejected Jesus Christ and mocked His holy name with their unrighteous and vile living.
What we read in Revelation 22:11 is not God’s permission, license, or encouragement to sin. But rather it is a warning about how one’s choices in this life determine their destiny in eternity. If one chooses the ways of unrighteousness in this life then one day they will find out they will remain in their chosen state. Someone said, “No worse punishment can God give to unholy men than to give them up to themselves.” In contrast to the wicked, the righteous will find in eternity that righteousness continues on in the very presence of God. Overall we find here a great warning that the time to trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and to live in righteousness is now, for in eternity there will be no second chances.
