This really makes me wonder... I've been growing tomato plants for decades and have never had a problem with deer or rabbits that a little concentrated cayenne pepper/garlic spray with milk and rotten egg couldn't handle, especially with tomato plants. One plant was taken out during the day (leaving a 4" stem), and the other plant was taken out at night after a fresh application of pepper spray. After losing two plants, I placed bands of plastic mesh around the bottoms of the tomato cages hoping that whatever animal that was doing the damage will be blocked. Hopefully it isn't a chipmunk into hot cuisine.

Chetly
Turned out that it was a vole that did the damage.
