The Danger of NeglectSong of Solomon 1:6 -- “Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.”Here in this verse the young woman of this book admits the personal neglect of herself and her own vineyard. Personal neglect of one’s self and one’s own belongings probably happens more often than we realize. I believe the greatest neglect of a Christian can be his or her own spiritual growth. A preacher must be extra careful here. Studying for a sermon is not the same as spending time with the Lord in Bible reading, study, and prayer.Sometimes within a family people and their needs can be neglected. Children have needs that only their parent can meet. A husband or wife has needs that only their spouse can meet. When those needs are neglected the temptation grows for them to fulfill them with alternatives that may not be good. Why not take a moment and examine your personal needs (physical and spiritual) and the needs of others that depend on you and ask yourself- Am I neglecting myself, my personal spiritual growth, and my responsibilities or relationships with others.
