Lie Not
Colossians 3:9-10 -- “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
Lying is a sin! Here we are plainly told to “lie not one to another”. It is not of the character of a Christian to lie.
There is a difference between one who occasionally lies and one who habitually lies. Because we still have to contend with the old nature we all are tempted to lie, and at times may give into our old nature and lie. The Holy Spirit, that indwells every believer is not going to allow any sin, to set comfortably in the believer’s heart. It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict the believer of any sin that the believer commits (John 16:7). This is why the Christian cannot lie comfortably. But what about the one who claims to be a Christian but habitually lies?
Revelation 21:8 says “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Note here that the Bible says “all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone…” This is not speaking of the one who lies occasionally but the one lies habitually. There is something wrong with the one who says they are Christian and lies all the time.
Ephesians 4:25 -- “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”
