Temperance- Do You Exercise It?
Proverbs 16:32
“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
A great Christian virtue that comes in one’s life through the Holy Spirit is having the discipline to practice temperance. Temperance is defined as self-control or the virtue of one who masters his or her desires and passions, especially sensual appetites. Temperance is a fruit of the Spirit, therefore it is not produced by the inner man alone and of himself but by the working of the Holy Spirit as the believer yields himself or herself unto the Lord.
Are you able to rule your spirit, your emotions, your feelings, your desires, your sensual desires, and your passions?
The ability to do so comes from the power of the Holy Spirit. If you struggle the answer is given in the Bible, you must yield yourself unto God as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13).
Are you exercising temperance?
With the help of God you can and God knows we all need help practicing temperance.
