While slavery is illegal throughout the world today, it’s worth noting that in the nations of Western Africa, where most of the slaves were kidnapped by Europeans, slavery is still widespread. Today, there are more than 2.9 million slaves in the nations of west Africa, with 60% of that total in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It is sadly ironic that European powers, who practiced slavery, but eventually recognized the moral imperative to abolish it, continue to be targeted for criticism by Leftists. But those same Leftists turn a blind eye to the modern day practice in those very same African countries.
Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade that lasted over 400 years from roughly 1450-1900.
A break down as to where the approximately 11 million slaves ended up when they arrived in the Americas.
Brazil..........4,000,000..... 35%
Spanish Empire.....2,500,000..... 22.1 &
British West Indies2,000,000......17.7%
French West Indies.1,600,000......14.1%
British N. America/..500,000...... 4.4%
United States
Dutch West Indies....500,000...... 4.4%
Danish West Indies....28,000........ 2%
The other 1.8% of the African Slaves went to Europe.
Do you notice that less than 1 in 20 came to the US. The other thing to note is that most slaves went to Spanish speaking countries. That is where the African slaves were called "Negros" because it was the Spanish/Portugese word for black.
You see most of the slave traders were not white but rather Spanish/Portugese.
