Far Better Vs. The More NeedfulPhilippians 1:21-24“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.”Most every Christian has anticipated and wondered what Heaven will be like. Here the Bible describes it as “to be with Christ; which is far better”. Yes, I am confident and looking forward "to be with Christ" and I cannot think of anything better than that! We long and look forward to heaven. And we long and look forward to seeing Christ! I have had Christians tell me, I wish God would take me on home to heaven. But our text shows the reason why He doesn’t, “to abide in the flesh is more needful for you”. Regardless of age or ability God has something for us who remain here on earth to do.“Something remains for us to do or dare, Even the oldest trees some fruit may bear.”God has all of His children here on earth for a purpose. It would do us well to find out what that purpose is and do it to the best of our abilities for His good and His glory. For us to “depart and be with Christ” would definitely be far better than anything this world could offer, but for now it is more needful for us to abide here in the flesh.Onward for Jesus until we reach the far better!
