GONE WITH THE WIND “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” (Eph. 4:14) Notice the verse says “every wind of doctrine.” That’s how people are these days. They run this way for a while, then the winds of Laodicea change, so they run that way, then another way. This tells the world that we are unstable and easily influenced and manipulated. This tells Satan that he can render us ineffective for God if only he can conjure up some sort of popular movement with thousands or millions of people. The days of personal religion are gone. There are very few Christians these days that will stand alone, if necessary, and walk with God. Everyone wants to be a part of a program or some movement, but very few just want to “do right” by living the old time religion inside and out. A trend that has been around for years is the “gospel singing” trend. It is commonly believed that there is something wrong with your church if you don’t have a “gospel singing” about two or three times per year. I’ve had people ask me about having this or that group come sing in our church, and I’ve always been against it because I’ve been around these singings enough to try the spirits. I’ve seen people who never take notes on any preaching or teaching, and never say “Amen” to anything, yet they smile, laugh, clap their hands, and get all excited when a singing group “performs” at the church. There’s something wrong with that! I'm okay with special music once in a while, but there's something wrong when people show more interest in music than in the word of God. “Oh, but we had lots of visitors!” some will say. Yes, and they won’t be back until the next concert. You ought to stop being trendy and just preach the word of God. The same could be said of the Promise Keepers trend, the What Would Jesus Do? trend, the Purpose Driven Life trend, the "dance praise" trend, and many others. People who keep being moved by these worldly winds are either lost or very immature and naïve. Grow up, friend, and be a good soldier of Jesus Christ. If Satan can use a trend to blow you out of the straight and narrow way, then you can bet your boots he will do it. Make sure he knows that he CANNOT do it.
