Sharing God’s Comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
In life everyone faces what the Bible calls tribulation and trouble. These two words in our text speak of the oppression, and pressing, and pressure we face through difficult times or the trials of our faith. When Christians face these trials of faith we can find the comfort of God to help us through them. This comfort is where God comes along beside us and helps us through the pain and sorrow of the trial.
God here is called “the God of all comfort”! And I can testify that He has lived up to His name! The word “comfort” means to come or to call alongside of another to console, encourage, instruct, strengthen, and help. The God of all comfort does this for His hurting children! But note how He instructs us to comfort others with the same comfort He has comforted us. We are to share God’s comfort with others. Perhaps it is a book God has used, or a particular verse of Scripture to bring you comfort. Maybe you can share your testimony of how God has or is bringing you through your trial of faith. Whatever God used to comfort you, you share it with others when they are facing difficult times. This is the ministry of the God of all comfort. We are not comforted by God just to be comforted. He comforts us so that we might comfort others. There is omnipotent power that comes when we say to someone hurting, “This is what God has done for me.”
