Does Sin Appear To Be Sin?Romans 7:12-13“Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.”Something good happened to the very religious man Saul of Tarsus (Paul). By the law of God, his personal sin became exceeding sinful. To him and in his heart his sin appeared as sin. The word “appear” in our text means to bring forth into the light.Does sin appear sin to you?For some that question may seem crazy. But when we think about the fact that the word sin is slowly being eliminated from the American vocabulary it is not a crazy question to ask at all. I understand why the world wants to eliminate any reference to sin, but what about when the church quits using it? When Christians “like” sinful posts on social media and cozy up with those living in sin they are not helping the sin to appear sin or become exceeding sinful. I agree that we as Christians should always seek to see lost souls saved and wayward Christians restored. But as our text so clearly points out, that righteous end will not come until the sin appears sin and becomes exceeding sinful in the sinners heart. What are your thoughts on the word “sin”?Do you think the word “sin” is a good word that describes our wrongs?Do you think wrong deeds should be called out as sin?Do you think people should be confronted about their sin?
