We have family and friends in Massachusetts that remember the Blizzard of 1978. It was one of the most significant weather events of the 20th century in New England. The Great Blizzard of 1978 also struck the Dayton Ohio and the entire Miami Valley region of Ohio with over 40 inches of snow.In Indiana just a half hour after the front blasted through, the Indianapolis International Airport was closed due to whiteout conditions. At 3 am, the blizzard produced peak winds of 55 mph. Temperatures dropped to zero that morning. Wind chills remained at 40 to 50 below zero nearly all day.

I'm from Ma. and I remember it well. 4,000 abandoned cars had to be towed from Rt. 128 near Boston. It was a mess.
