What Might Have BeenIsaiah 48:17-19“Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.”In this passage, Isaiah’s prophecy from the LORD to Israel was of what would have been had they just “hearkened” to God’s commandments. The LORD’s teaching was for their profit. Their disobedience not only kept them from God’s purposes, it also affected their offspring (children) and the plan God had for them.Would to God that all could understand that our sinful choices in life and our acts of disobedience not only affect us, but carry the possibility of affecting our children, maybe even our children’s children. Perhaps this is making you think of what might-have-been in your own life had you listened and obeyed the LORD. Remember, with God it is never too late to change your course of living.His grace is always available!
