Overcoming Disappointment
Ephesians 4:29-32
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
In life everyone will deal with being let down or being disappointed by people you love.
If we do not handle the feeling of disappointment Biblically it could turn to “bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking… with… malice”. That which made you feel disappointed can cause all this and grieve the Holy Spirit in the heart of the Christian. The first reaction to disappointment is usually in the form of corrupt communication from an uncontrolled tongue. With words we say things in frustration that we wished we wouldn’t have said. The best remedy to keep us from reacting wrong towards disappointment is found in Christ. Continue to be kind to the person who has disappointed you, keep a tender heart towards them, and continue to forgive them no matter how many times they may disappoint you.
Why?
Because of His love, this is the way Christ treats us.
