Moments That Humble UsJames 4:10“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”1 Peter 5:6“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”How does one humble themself?I’m not so sure one can do anything that can actually make themselves more humble. To me these verses may be teaching us that it is more of us recognizing and accepting the moments in life that God desires to use to humble us. For an example, there have been more than a few moments for me that I said something by mistake while I was preaching that later I thought, why did I say that or how could I say such a thing 😳! We would think of them as moments that were embarrassing and for sure they spoiled anything good we may have thought about ourselves. Let me put what I am trying to say in country boy terminology- God has a way of clipping our wings when we get to flying out of the boundaries He has set for us. In such moments it proves to be wise if we accept that God has just showed us that we are not so high and mighty or good as we thought we were. After the acceptance, there should come a prayer asking God to forgive us, and then thanking God for keeping us from our own prideful self. If it is in the will of God, in His due time, He can exalt us. But never will He truly exalt us before we are first humbled that we might rightfully recognize that any exaltation is from the graceful hand of God.
