Telling Your Secrets To God
Psalms 142:1-2
“I cried unto the LORD with my voice; with my voice unto the LORD did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.”
Have you ever had something on your heart that you felt like you could not share with anyone?
Maybe a hurt, a pain, a struggle, a weakness in your faith, something lacking, a need, and no one to share it with but God. If you make your request known it is during the time when the pastor asks for “unspoken requests made by a uplifted hand”. I feel as this was the case with David in Psalm 142.
The word “complaint” here does not mean what it means today. It means David had something on his heart that he was musing over, something he could not get off his mind and he knew that the only one he could talk to about it was the LORD. In this Psalm David felt that earthly refuge had failed him, no man cared for his soul, and he was overwhelmed (vs. 3-5). This meant there was no one (humanly speaking) he could seek to find the help he needed. David knew he could tell God his secret. Whatever it was that was bothering him, David knew he could trust God to tell him about it!
There’s an old hymn that always touches my heart when I hear it. The title asks a simple question -Does Jesus Care? (Frank Graeff 1901) There is a line in a stanza that says, “Does Jesus care when my way is dark,
With a nameless dread and fear?”
Got a nameless dread and fear or secret within your heart that troubles you?
Tell it to God, you can trust Him with it.
