Man’s Poorest InvestmentMark 8:36-37“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”One may drive by the mansion of the richest man in the world and think that man has it all. But if that same man has never trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour he is the poorest man in the world. Our text shares with us that a man can gain the whole world but if he has lost his soul what has he really gained?What shall a person give in exchange for their soul?I know a few who have gained the life they wanted but did so at the exchange of their soul. What will it all mean when they breathe their last breath of air here on earth? There is an eternity for all of us to go to when we pass through the door of death. There is an eternity in hell and there is an eternity in Heaven.Jesus asks, “What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”When a person gains anything at the expense of his or her soul being lost forever in eternity in hell, they made the poorest investment in the world. I have wanted to ask some people; what have you gained? Is it worth spending an eternity in hell? Oh that people knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and invested their life in serving Him and for the sake of the Gospel (Mark 8:35).
