That is something so simple yet so hard for most to understand! If you watch a western set in 1870, and $1000 dollars is mentioned, today it would take 40 times that much or $40,000 to equal the same buying power.

I remember when gold was 40 bucks an ounce, that in itself should be a good indicator of how worthless our currency is today.
