Laying Up In Store1 Timothy 6:17-19“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”The phrase “laying up in store” means to treasure away. The context of our text reminds me of what Jesus said in Matthew 6:20-21 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”Our text is a “charge” to Christians who are “rich in this world”. I will leave it between you and God to where you believe you fit in that phrase. All Christians are admonished to give “as God hath prospered him” (1 Corinthians 16:2). Our text also warns the rich to be careful that they trust not in the uncertainty of riches, but in God. They are to do good and be rich in good works, ready to distribute and willing to communicate. This means giving is good and helps the work of God. We should be free and liberal in giving to the Lord’s work. How much is it in your heart to give to the work of God?
