"THE DESPISED DELIVERER, THE REJECTED REDEEMER, THE SORROWING SAVIOUR, THE GRIEVING GOD"
"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." (Isaiah 53:3)
This entire chapter is filled with profound suffering and is also a testament to the boundless love and grace of God. The Suffering Servant takes upon Himself the pain and punishment of the world, yet responds with silence and submission, embodying the essence of sacrificial love. In the end, the chapter triumphantly reaffirms the hope and redemption that the Servant brings to humanity through His sacrifice for sin. Verse 3 is without a doubt one of the most powerful statements in all of Scripture depicting mankind's hatred towards the Son of God.
Think of it; the One Who is Divine is the One Who is Despised. The One Who brought redemption for men, is the One Who is rejected of men. The greatest Servant felt the greatest sorrow.
As He walked among men, our God was acquainted with grief. Heaven's fulness found hidden faces. The Deliverer was despised, and man thinks nothing of His wonderful Name. that Name that is to be esteemed above all other names (Philippians 2:9).
Some 700 plus years after Isaiah penned those words, our Saviour is threatened with being murdered shortly after His birth (Matthew 2:13-16). 30 years after that, a crowd gathers one day shouting, "Hosanna to the son of David"; but before weeks end, they're crying, "Crucify Him; Crucify Him."
Jesus' entire Ministery was met with the slurs of being born of fornicators to being guilty of blasphemy. He was indeed the Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Listen to Jesus speak those soul-stirring words as His suffering was reaching its epitome at Calvary now as the end drew nigh: "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46)
Oh friends, He endured all of that for you and me so that we will never know the sorrow and grief of our Father turning His face from us. And yes, "But for this cause came I unto this hour." Hallelujah, what a Saviour
