"GOD IS MY PORTION FOREVER" "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee."My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. (Psalm 73:25-26)Psalm 73 reminds us of the timeless struggle between faith and doubt. It serves as a powerful reminder that appearances can be deceiving. It also reassures us that God's loving guidance and goodness remains constant offering a refuge where faith is restored, even in the midst of doubt and despair. In this beautiful Psalm, Asaph, in so many words, asks God why it seems the wicked have all the fun but never seem to pay the fare. But when he went into God's sanctuary, he understood that in the end they will meet with justice.Asaph, like you and I many times, was troubled by how foolish his attitude had been while envying the wicked. He said he was like an ignorant beast who was only concerned about the physical things. Then he pondered the wonder of God and how He could love someone with such impure and selfish motives. Now I ask you, why in the world would God love someone like that? Why does He stay with us and hold our hand? Those kinds of questions seem to pop up all the time, don't they? Then all of a sudden, we remember. Yes, we remember how amazing it is that He would save us by His grace and then shower us with His goodness and afterward receive us in to Glory! When we consider where we have come from and where He is taking us, it is truly miraculous, isn't it?I love the way the Psalmist asks the question, "Whom have I in heaven but thee?", and then he quickly responds, "and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." Think about all of those dear saints of God, who have gone on before us and all they accomplished. Yet, God outshines each one of them. As a matter of fact, when you really stop to think about it, He outshines all of them put together! Therefore, He alone should be our greatest desire and receive our greatest devotion because there is none beside Him. How could we want anyone or anything greater? Everything this old world happily parades before us pales by comparison when standing next to our Saviour's gracious blessings!Friends, has the Lord captured your heart's desire, or are you still searching high and low for someone or something on this earth that is more desirous than Almighty God? Our greatest desire of the Lord these days should be the same as Asaph's was in those days, because when you have trusted Jesus Christ as Saviour, you'll find that His desire for you is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
