It’s genuinely hilarious watching these chemmies cling to that film like it’s some peer-reviewed masterpiece, while desperately trying to argue that basic aircraft contrails are evidence of geoengineering. Futile attempts - let’s remind the chemmies that Geoengineering is a real and legitimate scientific field, but it’s important to distinguish between what’s actually happening and what’s being wildly misrepresented. Yes, there are small-scale, localised geoengineering experiments, things like carbon capture, afforestation projects, and limited cloud seeding operations (which have been around for decades to encourage rainfall in drought-prone regions). These are documented, controlled, and not secret. They happen with scientific oversight and transparency in most cases. The confusion begins when conspiracy theorists (Dane wiggington, Matt Landman and more) lump these legitimate efforts in with claims about aircraft contrails being part of massive covert weather or climate manipulation operations. That’s simply not true. The trails people see in the sky, the ones crisscrossing or lingering, are just contrails. They form when water vapour from jet engines condenses and freezes at high altitudes. That’s all. Atmospheric conditions like humidity and temperature determine how long they last or how they spread. Then you have concepts like Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) and Solar Radiation Management (SRM)… these are the THEORETICAL geoengineering proposals. They’re ideas being discussed in academic and policy circles as potential tools to mitigate climate change in the future, but they are not being implemented. There is no global spraying program, no clandestine deployment of aerosols via commercial airliners, and no credible scientific evidence that any of this is happening today. The unfortunate result of this misinformation is a public that becomes suspicious and confused every time they look up at a busy sky. The scientific community keeps explaining this, over and over, contrails have nothing to do with geoengineering. But when the loudest voices keep linking unrelated things together, it muddies the conversation and makes productive discussion about real climate solutions even harder.
