The helicopter that crashed into the Hudson river had some sort of catastrophic mechanical and airframe failure. The main rotor head, mast and possibly the transmission are seen in the larger circle, possibly part of the tail boom to the left and maybe even the engine in the lower circle as no engine sound was heard during the last moments.
