"GOD'S MERCY ENDURES FOREVER" "O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever." (Psalm 136:26)The 26 verses in this 136th Psalm was a song that the Israelites used in their worship. Two groups of Levites would stand on opposite sides. The first group would sing the first line in each verse, and the second group would respond with those words, "for his mercy endureth for ever." Aren't you glad that we, who know the Lord, can praise, give thanks for, and sing about His matchless mercy which has stood and will stand for all time?Folks, we're living in a time where God is seldom given honor or praise for His protection to the multitudes. If it's not the threatening elements around us, it's those terrorizing enemies on every side whose desire is to oppose, oppress, and overtake us. How often we fail to realize how awful life would really be if God did not restrain that which would destroy us. Sometimes we get a glimpse of it when something especially heinous happens in this world like that which we are now experiencing with this virus, but even then, we have no idea what our life would be if God simply washed His hands of the whole thing and abandoned all who live on Earth. Yet, one day, when time is no more and eternity is forevermore, all mankind will understand the truth of God's mercy. The Bible tells us, "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." (Romans 14:11)Those who have never been born again will know an everlasting Hell completely devoid of God's Presence. Their eternal sentence will be to dwell in the depths of total depravity, where they will be trespassers in a place prepared for the devil and his angels to be forever confined with no hope of escape.Ah, but all of us whosoever's that have trusted Christ will dwell with Him forevermore. And it's not because of who we are or what we have done, rather, it's because of Who He is and what He has done for us, "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)"(Ephesians 2:4-5)Friends, let's re-read this 136th Psalm today and sing loud and long those words, "for his mercy endureth for ever."
