Being Found In Christ
Philippians 3:8-9
“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:”
If anyone knew anything about attempting to be righteous by the law it was the Apostle Paul. In Philippians 3:4-6 he shares with us his righteous pedigree, but when it was compared to righteousness that came through Jesus Christ he had to count it all loss. He had to count all his righteousness but dung. To gain the righteousness of Jesus Christ he had to first lose that he might gain. He had to ditch all his self-righteous attempts to gain favor with God and by faith accept the righteousness of Christ, which is by faith.
I wonder if Paul was present in the crowd the day that Jesus said, “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20)
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
