An Impenitent Heart
Romans 2:4-6 “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds:”
Yesterday from verse 4 of this text we saw the truth about how the goodness of God can lead one to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
But what if one rejects the goodness of God? Then that person, by their own doing, is left to “the righteous judgment of God”.
They, through an “impenitent heart” (or a heart that will not, through a repenting mind turn to God), invites the judgment of God into their life.
When we stand before God, (and all will one day stand) there will not be an excuse for why one did not accept the goodness of God and repent and believe in Jesus.
Verse 1 reminds us all that we “art inexcusable”. Perhaps there are some in the world who question whether the goodness of God exists. If you want to see just how good God is, look at the cross of Jesus Christ!
On that cross, Jesus took the judgment of our sin, so we could be set free from sin’s bondage and go to heaven.
