Be Careful When Choosing Friends
Proverbs 22:24-25
“Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.”
Through the years I tried to teach my children to make sure you are friendly to everyone but be careful because you cannot be friends with everyone. Today’s verses proves my point. Becoming friends with a person who lives a sinful lifestyle (raging anger in our text) carries the risk that you might “learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul”.
This warning from God is not an easy passage of truth to always practice, especially if you are the type of person who is by nature one who wants to have many friends. Finding that safe zone between being friendly and making a friend is a fine line. It takes much spiritual discernment. It shows great spiritual maturity for a Christian to recognize this person can become “a snare to thy soul” and then draw that line of separation. This is a very hard principle of truth to practice, but the warning proves it must happen.
May God help us to be as Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 “be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves”. Being wise as a serpent covers our actions but being harmless as doves covers our attitude.
God’s Blessings!
