End of March, 1942 | A gas chamber is put into operation in a farmhouse in Birkenau remodeled for this purpose (the so-called Bunker Nº 1). Polish Jews from Upper Silesia are taken from the unloading platform directly to the gas chambers. The corpses are buried in mass graves.
