1 Corinthians 15 - The Gospel
Vs 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the g o s p e l which I preached unto you, which also ye have r e c e i v e d, and wherein ye s t a n d;
Vs 2 By which also ye are s a v e d, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
Vs 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ d i e d for our sins according to the scriptures;
Vs 4 And that he was b u r i e d, and that he r o s e a g a i n the third day according to the scriptures:
THE GOSPEL (defined): It is the death, burial and resurrection, and nothing more.
Paul d e f i n e d the gospel through scriptures so that no church or individual would misunderstand it by adding to the work of Jesus Christ. There is nothing you can do to add to his work at Calvary.
Only Jesus could d i e for your sins.
Only Jesus was 'b u r i e d' but death had no power over him.
Only Jesus could be r e s u r r e c t e d after dying for your sins.
Now, if you ' a d d ' to the scriptures, then the d e v i l has control of your thoughts and heart as you wrest the scriptures to fit your view of 'what' you want church to do for you.
When your faith is in any church or its teachings i n s t e a d of the scriptures then you are a modern day Pharisee who were exceptional at keeping the Law but failed to understand the purposes of the Law.
Now, if you i n s i s t to add baptism, works, ritualistic practices, or other habits/traditions to salvation, then you are arguing with God and why Jesus is called the Saviour, which excludes you.
The devil had no problem in corrupting the Pharisees and even today, he has no trouble corrupting churches and their false teachings concerning 'the gospel'.
God will allow you to 't h i n k' that you can be a 'co-saviour', but on the judgment day, God will d e f i n e Salvation and it will simply be the truth as stated in scriptures: salvation is only found in the Saviour and no one else and in nothing more. Now, what will you do with the Saviour?
Have you wholly received him as your Saviour or are you also trusting your own goodness along with the goodness of Jesus? If you are, you've made yourself co-Saviour. Once you do that, you've corrupted the simplicity of the Gospel.
2 Corinthians 11:3 - But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent b e g u i l e d Eve through his subtilty, so your m i n d s should be c o r r u p t e d from the simplicity that is in Christ.
