CHEAP GRACE We are told in I Peter 1:19 that the blood of our Saviour is “precious.” Yet, within the ranks of fundamentalism, a great many are practically running blue light specials and clearance sales with the gospel, in hopes of gleaning a few professions per week. By offering cheap salvation to those who show no conviction of their own sin and depravity, empty believists are engaging in cheap grace "evangelism" by devaluing the worth of the holy blood of Jesus Christ. The redemption of lost souls is a very serious business, and it deserves the very careful treatment of wise, spirit-filled witnesses. Sending out Spirit-quenching amateurs to do the work of mature Christian soldiers is a tragic mistake, and it has done unrepairable damage to the cause of Christ throughout fundamentalism over the past several decades. Salvation is no longer highly esteemed as a precious gift that the sinner may receive by forsaking his own self-righteousness and receiving Christ. No, salvation is now as cheap and easy as uttering a vain prayer with no Holy Ghost conviction whatsoever and no change of life afterwards. The precious blood of Christ has been marked-down and traded-off in exchange for mere numbers. This is little more than a fundamentalist version of Dark Age indulgences, and it is a sin of the highest degree. Many preachers will stand guilty in the day of judgment, both for practicing this evil and for refusing to preach against it.
