"THE DRINK OF DELIVERANCE"
"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14)
We find in verses 3-30 of this 4th chapter of John, that Jesus engages in a conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well in Sychar. He challenges the societal and religious barriers of His time by openly speaking to her and revealing His messianic identity. This encounter highlights Jesus’ offer to partake of the living water that only He can provide. His invitation, here, and throughout the Gospels, is extended to everyone and thereby, no one is excluded!
Oh, how refreshing it is to drink from the well of Christ's Pure Water. Nothing can compare with how it satisfies the thirst of our souls and yet at the same time, spoils the taste for sin. The woman whom Christ met that day certainly realized while deep in the throes of her sin we hear her cry, "Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not." (v.15) Whether we realize or not, millions are crying for and calling out those same words today.
Each of us have seen folks going thru life every day who are looking and longing for that drink of deliverance. All around us, untold numbers are trying to live a life apart from Christ; and just like the case of this often-married woman here; that's like trying to drink water from a leaky bucket!
In verse 4 of this same chapter, we hear those words, "And he MUST needs go through Samaria." (caps mine) There were many needs that day for the salvation of that woman, just like there are many needs today for men, women, and children alike. And our present message is the same message that Jesus voiced in the past, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;"
Friends, every day, we encounter scores of folks who are Thirsting for Truth. May you and I continue to be the Ladles in the Hand of the Lord, who will draw the Water from God's Well and proclaim the Good News from that Land above.
