Why Not?
If a person was diagnosed with a deadly disease it would be terrible. What would it be like if the doctor who diagnosed the disease said, “There is no need to worry for there is a 100% cure”, but then the person refused to come and take the cure?
Listen to what God says in Proverbs 1:24-25, “Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:”
Imagine it, God is stretching out His hand, He is offering His counsel of help for victory over sin and the person refuses God’s hand, they do not regard God’s cure for sin, they reject God’s reproof. It is like a man drowning and another man reaches down to offer a hand to pull him up, but the drowning man refuses his hand.
Sadly, I have seen this scene played over and over and over again. One would think that if a person was chained to a sin he or she would do whatever it took to be set free. After some discussion about a few Gospel centered places of help, a man with an addiction asked me, “Which place would you recommend I go, to get the help I need?” My answer was, “Either of these places will be successful for you when you are ready to receive the help they offer.”
FYI- he refused both places and died in his sin. In refusing the places he was refusing the outstretched hand of God.
The hand of God is ever extended…
