Putting God In A Box2 Chronicles 2:5-6“And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods. But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?”The house Solomon built for the LORD in its original state must have been something to see! We read in 2 Chronicles 2:2 that he required the assistance of 153,600 men to help him build the LORD a house. No doubt the house Solomon built for the LORD was a great house. Why shouldn’t it be, “for great is our God above all gods”! But Solomon was wise and did acknowledge that the house he built, even “the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain” God.The word “contain” means to seize, to measure, and to sustain. How can one get a hold on God and hold Him? Or another way of putting it is, how can one put God into a box? As majestic as Solomon’s temple for God was, it could not contain the majesty of Almighty God!Be very careful about trying to limit God.Do not imagine God to be a certain way, just take His Word for who He is!2 Chronicles 6:18“But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!”Isaiah 66:1“Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?”
