Zivia Lubetkin escaped the Warsaw ghetto through the underground sewer system as 1 of the leaders who fought back during the Uprising. The fighting resulted in about 70,000 Jews killed or deported. While ultimately unsuccessful, it was the largest Jewish revolt in WWII.The Jewish resistance was one arena in which women assumed leadership roles that were equal to those of men. In several ghettos, including the Warsaw ghetto, women like Zivia Lubetkin were among the central leaders of the uprising. #WomenintheHolocaust
