#OnThisDay
March 10, 1748:
John Newton, a slave ship captain, experiences a dramatic conversion to Christianity during a violent storm at sea. Struck by a passage in The Imitation of Christ about life’s uncertainty, he begins his spiritual journey. Newton later becomes an Anglican clergyman, a passionate abolitionist, and the author of “Amazing Grace,” one of the most well known hymns in history.
