Mary O’Brien (Member 54,622) spotted a sky full of Cirrus clouds, their long tails arranged parallel to the winds high above Arches National Park, Utah, US. The flicked ends of these cloud streaks make this the species of Cirrus known as uncinus, from the Latin word for ‘hooked’. It is a formation that can appear ahead of a weather front. ‘This stone tower seemed to be watching the Cirrus clouds in front of her for the weather they might bring the next day,’ said Mary. ‘She has been watching clouds for thousands of years.’
