In 1969 we went to the moon; we went back five more times. Each time we stayed on the surface only a couple of days, this is because of the dangers from the hostel environment extreme temperature fluctuations, lack of atmosphere, meteor strikes and solar flares, gamma bursts, electromagnetic pulse from coronal mass ejections, etc. This is the reason we have not been back to the moon in over fifty years and why it is so impractical to build colonies on the surface. In recent months we have discovered underground hollow lava tubes on the moon and evidence of the same thing on Mars. We have known for a long time that the moon is partially hollow. Any interplanetary alien explorer would surely find the same problems and the obvious solution for colonization or any extended stay would necessitate using underground facilities to protect their very existence. We built bomb shelters during both the World Wars for the same reason. History shows that we have done this in the ancient past at Gobekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe, Derinkuyu, Cappadocia, Butrint, Kernavė, Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni, etc. and God only knows how many more we haven’t found yet. So, Elon Musk you got some more work to do!
