Calvary’s Darkness
Matthew 27:45-46
“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Here was a strange miracle with creation, a total darkness in the middle of the day for three hours. This was more than a mere eclipse. It was as though no one, not even Heaven, and not even all of creation itself could bear the scene of the awfulness of what happened on the cross to secure redemption. All of the sin of mankind past, present, and future was being dealt with once and for all. But we must not ever forget what followed that darkness was dawn!
Matthew 28:1; 5 & 6,
“In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre… And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
He did it all for me and you!
