Keep Yourself From Sin1 John 5:18“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”The Bible teaches us that God keeps us from falling and He will present us faultless before the presence of God (Hebrews 7:25; Jude v. 24). That is the truth of the doctrine of eternal security. But our text verse is plainly teaching us that we are to put forth the effort to keep ourself from sin. The very first chapter in First John teaches us that sin will be a problem for us, and if we sin we have the promise that when we confess our sin to God, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That is a promise, but it is not a crutch to enable us to continue in sin. The Christian ought to take necessary steps to keep himself from sin. The doctrine of personal separation from sin and idols is still applicable for today and is much needed to be followed!2 Corinthians 6:17“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”1 John 5:21“Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”One of the character traits of pure religion and undefiled before God is to keep yourself unspotted from the world (James 1:27).What steps are you taking in your Christian life to keep yourself from sin?
