Where Do You Stand?
Matthew 5:37 -- “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
Vance Havner said, “We cannot be neither/nor in a world where the real issues are either/or.” And in today’s world on some issues one cannot be in the middle or neutral. When the Bible is clear on a matter then our stand must be with what the Bible says. Anything more than a simple yes or a simple no comes out of evil. This kind of stand is not always easy. It is easy preaching but harder to live. The Christian parent, out of love, cannot give their child a “yes”, when they know the Bible says “no” on the matter.
A true Christian friend at times has to, with love and humility, give their friend “thus saith the LORD” council, when asked.
My commentary on our verse is this . The verse is taken from the Christ’s Sermon on the Mount. With His Sermon He is teaching with the law of Christ in view. One may not be popular or liked identifying with Christ. Your Bible stance of yea or nay with today’s issues may get you “canceled”. In your stand with Christ it may seem like you are standing alone, just remember the words of Paul, “the Lord stood with me…”
