The Reproach Of A Christian1 Peter 4:14-16, 19 - “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf… Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”A Christian can and will suffer because of sin. We must never forget that sin has consequences and if a Christian, there will be chastisement for our sins. (Hebrews 12:5-11)But our text also speaks of the suffering that comes to one “as a Christian”. Has your identification with Christ ever brought suffering in your life?We sing the last stanza of the great old hymn of the faith, “To the old rugged cross I will ever be true, its shame and reproach gladly bear…”, but do any of us ever go so far with Christ that we actually bear His reproach? If you do, then take no glory yourself but glorify God only. Take faith and commit your soul to Him as unto a faithful Creator. What do you think would happen if 50% of all church members took their Christian life seriously?
